“May I a small house and large garden have;

And a few friends, And many books, both true.”

― Abraham Cowley

I live in North Mankato, Minnesota, in a charming old house with five harps, lots of books, a huge garden, too many plants, and two bossy black cats.

I draw my inspiration from the unsurpassed beauty of the nature of southern Minnesota and its seasons, from traveling to new and beloved places,

from my witty and brilliant and loving family, from my few true and precious friends, and from the real life all around me.

I write creative nonfiction and memoir because I believe I can write no fiction better than the true stories unfolding, second by second, in my world.
